¡Hola!

Most of you know who I am, but if you're new here... 

My name is Sophia, and I recently packed up my life and moved to Costa Rica to teach English. My life before this consisted of volleyball, school, and more volleyball. I've always had a love for nature and adventure, but volleyball took priority. I am on a journey of discovering who I am outside of volleyball and academics, while immersing myself in another culture, learning a new language, and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone.

My beloved college roommate, teammate, and best friend, Olivia deserves the credit for my website name. She nicknamed me Sophija, which eventually shortened to Fija on the volleyball court. Fija stuck with us throughout our college years together, and never left. No one except Olivia and a few other of my college teammates use the nickname Fija, but it was too perfect to pair with the Costa Rican "Pura Vida" way of life. ​

My blog will consist of a combination of personal accounts of my experiences in Costa Rica and surrounding countries, the lessons I learn, and photos of beautiful views, my friends, my experiences, and myself around the world! I'll share the good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful, and everything in between. I know the abroad life isn't all rainbows and butterflies. I hope to keep my family and friends back home involved in my life through this blog post, while also reaching a wider audience, inspiring others to move abroad and experience new cultures.
